We believe that team building and delegation skills
go hand in hand. A common cause therefore for ineffective team management
is usually poor delegation skills. Often, when priorities need clearing in shorter
timescales, the manager's solution is to increase their personal effort or adopt
an authoritarian or reactive approach to tasks or team members
This causes
alienation, even resistance, and often induces stress, even chaos. The manager/supervisor
needs to appreciate that their time is in fact the sum of the time available from
his/her team, and that without effective delegation skills management demands
for proactive utilisation and development of the team resource cannot be achieved.
To be effective delegation skills must include developmental
processes. see www.actioncentredlearning.co.uk
